Set aside the bread and serve this ham and cheese melt on puff pastry instead.  Sweet and savory never tasted so good...especially when topped with a sprinkle of confectioners' sugar.

    of a 17.3-ounce package Pepperidge Farm® Puff Pastry Sheets (1 sheet), thawed

  • 4

    slices deli Swiss cheese (about 4 ounces)

    teaspoons confectioners' sugar

How to Make It

Heat the oven to 400°F.  Beat the egg and water in a small bowl with a fork. 
Sprinkle the flour on the work suface.  Unfold the pastry sheet on the work surface.  Roll the pastry sheet into a 12-inch square.  Cut into 4 (6-inch) squares.  Brush the edges of the pastries with the egg mixture.
With a corner of 1 pastry facing you, place 2 slices ham and 1 slice cheese on the bottom half of the pastry.  Fold the pastry over the filling to form a triangle and press the edges to seal.  Crimp the edges with a fork.  Repeat with the remaining pastries.  Brush the pastries with the egg mixture.  Place the pastries onto a baking sheet.

    Very delicious!

    This is a great alternative to making the actual deep fried Monte Cristiano sandwiches. Even my two young children liked the recipe and asked me to make it again. The only thing I did different is to dip them in raspberry preserves instead of maple syrup. I just can't imagine dipping these in syrup. Great recipe!

    EXCELLENT!!!

    Wasnt very hard to make. I LOVE this recipe! My husband & 3 kids loved these. I made mine & my 16 yr old daughters with the Swiss Cheese that it calls for but for my husband, 9 yr old daughter & 12 yr old son I used Muenster because they are not big fans of Swiss. They all complimented on how tasty they were.. Anybody that is not a fan of Swiss Cheese should definately try making these with Muenster... They were Excellent both ways. I will definately be making these again :)
