small onion, minced (about 2 tablespoons)
tablespoons all-purpose flour
cups half and half
tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves
teaspoon ground white pepper
package (14 ounces) baby frozen broccoli florets, prepared according to package directions
Grate 1/2 teaspoon zest and squeeze 1 tablespoon juice from the lemon.
Heat the butter in a 3-quart saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until tender, stirring occasionally.
Add the flour and turmeric to the saucepan and cook and stir for 1 minute. Gradually stir in the half-and-half, lemon zest, lemon juice, basil and white pepper. Cook and stir until the mixture boils and thickens. Spoon the sauce over the broccoli.
