How to Make It

Step 1

Place the pepper and water into a blender.  Cover and blend until smooth.

Step 2

Heat the soup and pepper mixture in a 1-quart saucepan over medium heat until the mixture is hot and bubbling.  Season to taste.  Serve topped with the avocado, queso fresco and sour cream.

Recipe Tips

  • Ingredient Note: When a green jalapeño pepper ripens and turns red, it is traditionally smoked and dried, after which the name changes to chipotle pepper.  Small cans of chipotle peppers packed in adobo sauce (similar to a BBQ sauce) are usually available in the canned pepper section of most grocery stores.  Incredibly spicy and smoky in flavor, chipotle peppers can add delicious personality to your everyday meals.

    This is great for us spicy food lovers!

    This dish is perfect for those soup and sandwich nights. The creaminess of the cheese and sour cream blends in so nicely with the soup. The amount of spiciness was just right, too.
