cup (1 stick) butter
cup packed brown sugar
cups confectioners' sugar
Heat the butter in a heavy 2-quart saucepan over low heat until melted. Stir in the brown sugar and heat to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes. Stir in the milk and heat to a boil. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let cool until the mixture is warm.
Fill a large bowl halfway with cold water. Set the saucepan in the bowl. Stir the confectioners' sugar in the saucepan. Beat the frosting with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth.
