How to Make It

Step 1

Heat the oven to 375°F. Cook the beef in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat until it's well browned, stirring often to separate meat. Pour off any fat.

Step 2

Stir the corn with its liquid, picante sauce and cheese in the skillet. Spoon the beef mixture into a 2-quart shallow baking dish. Prepare the corn muffin mix according to the package directions. Using 2 spoons, drop the batter evenly on top of the beef mixture.

Step 3

Bake for 25 minutes or until the corn muffin topping is golden brown.

Perfect for a winter warming meal

This is a great, SIMPLE recipe that is sure to be a crowd pleaser. I used 1 can of whole kernel corn (drained), instead of creamed corn, and I added 1 can of drained sliced black olives, 1 can of drained black beans, 1/2 of a chopped onion , and 1/2 packet of taco seasoning to the beef. I also used 2 corn muffin mixes instead of 1. It was wonderful!

Easy & Delicious w/a simple change

My family loved this recipe. I took the advice of some of the reviews and added a half packet of taco seasoning, which made all the difference in the world. I didn't care for the corn bread on top because it was too sweet for me. My family loved it though. I will try this recipe again with cornmeal on top.

    Great weeknight meal option

Good, but definitely needs a little added seasoning. Super easy to make and my family enjoyed it. I made it in a 10-inch cast iron skillet and probable should have doubled the recipe because the "filling" was a little thin.

    Flavor-filled!

I made this for dinner tonight. I added a few couple tablespoons of chopped onions, a small can of sliced black olives, and ended up using creamed corn because I didn't have whole kernel corn. Oh man, this turned out so flavorful. The cornbread is so good on it. My daughter said we could just heat up the meat mixture and put it on tortillas and it would be delicious too. I agreed. This was so easy and quick to make.

    Delish!

I made this recipe for dinner and my family loved it! However, since the recipe is called taco tamale pie, I did add a taco seasoning package to the ground beef and it came out perfect! This will definitely be added to the favorites!
