    large onion, chopped (about 2 cups)

    clove garlic, minced

    cups shredded green cabbage

  • 1

    large white potato, diced (about 2 cups)

  • 4

    ounces (1/2 of an 8-ounce package) cooked hamsteak, cut into 2-inch-long strips (about 1 cup)

    tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

  • 1

    teaspoon caraway seeds(optional)

How to Make It

Step 1

Heat the oil in a 6-quart saucepot over medium-high heat. Add the onions and garlic and cook for 3 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally.

Step 2

Stir the broth, 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, cabbage, potato and ham in the saucepot and heat to a boil. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 30 minutes or until the potato is tender. Stir in the parsley and caraway seed, if desired.

    wonderful cabbage recipe

    I used more potatoes and more ham and did use the caraway seeds.. they were just what the recipe needed to put it over the top.

    Comfort Food Made Easy

    This was just awesome I added the leftover spiral ham in stead of the ham steak. Replaced the vegetable oil for unsalted butter, but also added celery to the onions when sautéing.

    Hearty and comforting.

    I used a little more cabbage and potato and only one onion. It was really good. Even my kids who don't like cabbage liked it.

    I replaced butter for the vegetable oil, but other than that, I thought it was yummy! Will make again :)
