How to Make It

Step 1

Cook the beef, onion, pepper, basil and oregano in a 4-quart saucepot over medium-high heat until the beef is well browned, stirring often to separate meat. Pour off any fat.

Step 2

Stir the soup, water, lemon juice and macaroni in the saucepot and cook until the mixture is hot and bubbling.

    Made a pot of this for a teacher appreciation lunch. There were no leftovers! Nice comfort food my whole family will eat.

    Mac & Beef Soup

    My family has been making this sense the great depression. We don't use lemon and we add mushrooms, additional garlic and a spice called "nature's seasoning" and it tastes so good. Try adding some mozzarella cheese to the top...mmmmm yummy!

    I added a lot more oregano and basil than what the recipe called for. I also added some onion and garlic powder as well as a can of diced tomatoes with green chiles.

    Mac & Beef Soup

    I add a little hot pepper sauce to it to give it a little more flavor, I double the amount of herbs, and mix in half a cup of cheddar cheese along with sprinkling some on top.

    Not bad, it's basically a jazzed up tomato soup. Leave the pasta separate, unless you want there to be less liquid the next morning.
