This recipe takes ordinary sausage stuffing to the next level and then some!  We’ve used 2 kinds of apples and 2 types of stuffing to give this stuffing a delicious, complex flavor. Chicken broth provides the savory base flavor, Red Delicious apple adds subtle sweetness while Granny Smith apple provides a juicy, slightly tart flavor.  Use half bread and half cornbread stuffing for delicious cornbread flavor but with a lighter texture.  The best part?  It’s ready in less than 30 minutes!

    cups Swanson® Chicken Broth or Swanson® Certified Organic Chicken Broth or Swanson® Natural Goodness® Chicken Broth

  • 1

    stalk celery, coarsely chopped (about 1/2 cup)

  • 1

    small onion, coarsely chopped (about 1/4 cup)

  • 1/2

    Red Delicious apple, chopped (about 3/4 cup)

  • 1/2

    Granny Smith apple, chopped (about 3/4 cup)

  • 1/2

    pound bulk pork sausage, cooked and crumbled

  • 2

    cups Pepperidge Farm® Herb Seasoned Stuffing

How to Make It

Step 1

Heat the broth, celery, onion and apples in a 3-quart saucepan over medium-high heat to a boil. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 5 minutes or until the vegetables and apples are tender.

Step 2

Add the sausage and stuffing and stir lightly to coat.

Recipe Tips

  • For an Interesting Twist: Omit the apples. Add 1/2 teaspoon chili powder. Use 1/2 pound smoked chorizo sausage, casing removed and cut into 1/2-inch pieces for the pork sausage.

    This stuffing is excellent!

    I made this stuffing for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner and it was a big hit. I used venison sausage instead of pork and added dried cranberries along with the apples and it was delicious. Everyone wanted the recipe. I think this has become our new family tradition.

    Sausage & Apple Stuffing

    I made it with turkey sausage instead of pork and it was great! Made it along with 2 other kinds of stuffing and it was the first to go! It's also great with craisins instead of apples
