How to Make It

Step 1

Season the beef with black pepper. Coat the beef with 2 tablespoons flour. Heat the oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef in 2 batches and cook until it's well browned, stirring often.

Step 2

Place the potatoes, carrots, onions and garlic into a 5-quart slow cooker. Top with the beef. Add 3 cups broth, Worcestershire, thyme and bay leaf.

Step 3

Cover and cook on LOW for 10 to 11 hours or until the beef is fork-tender. Remove and discard the bay leaf.

Step 4

Stir the remaining flour and broth in a small bowl until the mixture is smooth. Stir the flour mixture and peas in the cooker. Increase the heat to HIGH. Cover and cook for 15 minutes or until the mixture boils and thickens.

    The First Reviewer Was Right!

This recipe does taste like Mom's Home Made. It is easy to follow and very good to eat (with lots of gravy)!!

Finally! A crockpot recipe that tastes like Mom's!

Excellent beef stew recipe! One step I added was to deglaze the pan after cooking the beef: place fresh thyme sprigs and basil in hot pan once beef is removed. After 30 seconds, I added Worchester sauce and 1/2 cup beef broth. As it simmered, stir up the fond on bottom of pan-add to crockpot. Served over mashed potatoes on a single-digit, winter's night was amazing! Thanks, Campbell's! (Ps-left out peas, did snip fresh parsley over plate -husband said best stew ever!)

Mmmm, I feel so warm & content

The perfect meal for a raw, windy November day. After reading other reviews of this coming out bland, I decided to add a can (about 14 oz) of drained diced tomatoes. I also sliced 3 ribs of celery and added that into the stew as well. This meal was delicious and not at all bland! I think the addition of tomatoes helped "beef" up the flavor. We will definitely be making this again!

    Delicious Autumn meal

This smelled sooo good cooking throughout the day. Finally when I sampled it it was good but not as flavorful as I thought it should be. Added Kitchen Bouquet to taste (about 2 tsp) and 1tblsp cornstarch/water to make it thicker. Then it was perrrfect. Served with whole wheat rolls.

    Great Fall meal

Very easy to make and the grandkids loved it. Next time I would substitute green beans for peas.
