    bag (8.6 ounces) Pepperidge Farm® Soft Baked Mystic™ Sugar Cookies

    container (about 2.25 ounces) blue crystal decorative colored sugar

    bag (12 ounces) mini candy coated plain chocolate pieces

How to Make It

KIDS: Spread some of the frosting over the entire top of each cookie, at least 1/16-inch thick.
KIDS: Holding each cookie over a paper plate, generously sprinkle blue sugar on the upper third of the frosting. Shake off extra sugar away from the plain frosting onto the plate. Gently pat the sugar into the frosting.
KIDS: Holding each cookie over a different plate, generously sprinkle granulated sugar on the remaining frosting. Shake off extra sugar away from the blue area onto the plate. Gently pat the sugar into the frosting.
KIDS AND ADULT: Attach a small plain decorating tip (#4) to a pastry bag and fill halfway with frosting. Pipe the frosting in a circular or up and down motion across the edge of the blue area to form the fur trim of the snowman's hat. Press in 2 candy-coated pieces just under the fur for the eyes. Press in 1 candy-coated piece in the center for the nose. Press in 4 candy-coated pieces to form a smile. Place a marshmallow half, cut-side down into the frosting at the top of the blue area for the hat's pompom.

Recipe Tips

  • Helper: The equipment needed for this recipe is: Paper plates, small bowl, plastic knives, spoons & forks, 1/2 cup dry measuring cup, rubber spatula, pastry bag, small round decorating tip (#4), small resealable plastic bags, scissors & small knife.
  • Helper: If you don't have a pastry bag, you can use a resealable small plastic bag. Just cut off one corner to make a small opening.
  • Alternate Preparation: For Sparkling Sugar Cookie Santas- Spread some of the frosting over the top third of each cookie and sprinkle with red crystal decorating sugar instead of blue as in step 2 above. For a "beard", spread some of the frosting over the bottom third of each cookie, leaving the middle third of the cookie plain. Press a fork into the frosting to add texture to the "beard". Sprinkle granulated sugar over the "beard", shaking off excess as in step 3. Proceed with step 4, piping the frosting for the "fur" trim of Santa's hat and mustache. Use candy-coated pieces for eyes and nose, pressing them into the frosting. Cut a thin piece of red licorice for the mouth and attach with frosting. Place the marshmallow "pompom" on Santa's hat.
