Ready in under an hour, you can spoon up lots of flavor in this hearty chili featuring cubes of beef simmered in beef broth and picante sauce. Top it your way with Cheddar cheese, green onions or salsa.
cost per recipe: $8.48
The price is determined by the national average.
tablespoon olive oil
pound beef sirloin steak or boneless beef top round steak (about 1 steak), cut into cubes
medium onion, chopped (about 1/2 cup)
small green pepper, chopped (about 1/2 cup)
teaspoon ground cumin
tablespoon all-purpose flour
cup Pace® Picante Sauce
cups Swanson® Beef Broth
Heat the oil in a 4-quart nonstick saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until it's well browned, stirring often. Pour off any fat.
Reduce the heat to medium. Stir the onion, pepper and cumin in the saucepan and cook until the vegetables are tender-crisp, stirring occasionally. Add the flour and cook and stir for 1 minute.
Add the picante sauce and broth and heat to a boil. Reduce the heat to low. Cook for 20 minutes or until the beef is cooked through and the mixture is thickened.

I am sure this is very good but where are the chile peppers or chile powder? Put several tablespoons of mild chile powder (make a roux) and some oregano in this or skin, seed and chop some poblano chiles if you want it a little hotter. No need for jalapeno's if you use poblanos then everyone can eat this. I have no problem with the salsa but. . . I would use some chopped tomatoes (canned) with juice or fresh with some V8 juice. I would use chicken broth paste from Better Than Bouillon instead of the overpowering beef bouillon. Our family is Mexican, we live in Texas and this is how *we* roll.

I made this for myself and two teenaged sons and we all loved it. It felt more like on the soup side, than a traditional chili, but that was just fine. I was surprised it was this good for being such a simple recipe. I used medium spiced Pace which gave the overall flavor more of a kick (I love very spicy foods, and thought the medium spice was perfect). I'm not a huge fan of beans in chili, nor is my youngest, so that made it even better for us (but you could easily add beans for sure).

This recipe was excellent and very easy! This recipe served both my husband and I with no leftovers, and we are not heavy eaters. I would definitely recommend doubling or trippling the recipe for a larger group of people. We will definitely make this again!
