If you're looking for a baked ziti recipe that's better than the rest, try this one...it gets unique and delicious flavor from the blend of three cheeses.

Ingredients

cost per recipe: $10.70

  • 1 pound uncooked mostaccioli or tube-shaped pasta (ziti)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) Prego® Flavored with Meat Italian Sauce
  • 8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese(about 2 cups)
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  • Step 1

Cook and drain the mostaccioli according to the package directions.  While the mostaccioli is cooking, heat the oven to 400°F.

  • Step 2

Season the beef with salt and pepper.  Cook the beef, garlic and onion in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat until the beef is well browned, stirring often to separate meat. Pour off any fat. Stir in the sauce.

  • Step 3

Stir the beef mixture, cooked mostaccioli, 1 cup mozzarella cheese, the ricotta cheese and Parmesan cheese in a large bowl.  Spoon the mixture into a 13x9x2-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella cheese.

  • Step 4

Bake for 20 minutes or until the mixture is hot and the cheese is melted.

Haven't finished it yet but I've made many of these dishes and I know it's going to be great. It smells so good and that's half the battle. I'll give this a 9.8 without even tasting it. Now if I could only pronounce the name of the dish. My wife is Italian so I have to get it right.

Your pasta and rice measurements are frustrating. On this one it asks for 6 cups of pasta, cooked an drained. Is that 6 cups before it's cooked or after it's cooked? I don't even try your pasta or rice recipes any more.

Please be clear about how much UNCOOKED pasta or rice is needed. Also, I only buy regular rice so it would be helpful if you had clear instructions on substituting regular rice for instant/minute rice if called for in your recipes.

This was O so good!!! I used rigatoni pasta and Prego's Tomato/basil, my son and husband tried to pick out the zucchcini, but you couldn't even taste it when its all mixed together. I will definitely make this again!!!

We loved this recipe. I shredded the zucchini in order to hide it, and it worked. My husband and daughter never even knew it was in there, and they loved the meal. I will make this again and again!

This was a great recipe! My family loved it. I used campanelle pasta instead of ziti, added a few tablespoons of water to the sauce jar to get the rest of the sauce out and so that it would be a little juicier when it cooked, and added a little more cheese to the top. It turned out beautifully and it would be a great dish to take to a covered dish/potluck.
