Wishing you knew how to make meatball subs with your favorite Mexican flavors?  Your wish is granted with this Tastemade Picante Meatball Subs recipe!  Homemade meatballs are simmered in picante sauce until they're perfectly done and ready to spoon into soft rolls.  Then sprinkle with cheese and broil until the cheese is melted- so easy!  Top with avocado and cilantro (if you like) to finish for sandwiches that will satisfy both your taco lovers and your sub fans.  Picante Meatball Subs taste great no matter what you're craving!


  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1 jar (16 ounces) Pace® Picante Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 Italian hoagie roll, split
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (about 4 ounces)
  • 1 avocado, pitted, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro (optional)


  • Step 1

    Season the beef with salt and pepper.  Thoroughly mix the beef, 2 tablespoons picante sauce, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning and garlic in a large bowl.  Shape the beef mixture into 10 meatballs.

  • Step 2

    Heat a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat.  Add the meatballs and cook for 6 minutes or until well browned.  Add the remaining picante sauce and heat to a boil.  Reduce the heat and cook for 10 minutes or until the meatballs are done.  Stir in the sugar and cook for 5 minutes.  Season to taste.

  • Step 3

    Heat the broiler.  Place the rolls onto a baking sheet.  Divide the meatballs and sauce among the rolls.  Sprinkle with the mozzarella cheese.  Broil for 2 minutes or until the cheese is melted.  Cut each sandwich in half.  Top with the avocado and the cilantro, if desired, before serving.
