French Onion Burgers are a pub menu staple that you can make at home in 25 minutes!  It's the perfect marriage of two comfort food favorites.  Sear the burgers, then simmer to finish in condensed French onion soup.  The soup seasons the burgers perfectly with the flavors of beef stock and onions.  Melt some cheese on top (we like American but Swiss is great, too!).  You can even toast the buns to get that toasted bread with melty cheese everyone loves about French onion soup!  Make these French Onion Burgers at home instead of ordering takeout- you won't be sorry!

  • 1  pound ground beef
  • 1 can (10 1/2 ounces) Campbell’s® Condensed French Onion Soup
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 Pepperidge Farm® Sesame Topped Hamburger Buns


  • Tips

    • Skip the buns and try serving these in a bowl, on top of hot mashed potatoes!
  • Step 1

    Season the beef with salt and pepper.  Shape the beef into 4 (1/2-inch-thick) burgers.

  • Step 2

    Heat a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add the burgers and cook until well browned on both sides (to prevent sticking- make sure the skillet is hot before adding the beef). Remove the burgers from the skillet.  Pour off any fat.

  • Step 3

    Stir the soup in the skillet and heat to a boil. Return the burgers to the skillet. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 5 minutes or until the burgers are done. Top the burgers with the cheese and cook until the cheese is melted. Serve the burgers on the buns with the soup mixture for dipping.

    My husband is a very picky eater and he really liked it. I loved it. Quick, inexpensive and easy. My 18 year old said it was a little "too greasy or something' I can just omit giving him the dipping sauce though, so you can still keep everyone happy. I just added salt and pepper to my burgers while making them. delicious!

    I made this for the kids after school. They loved it, so did my husband and I. I added powdered onion soup as well as Worcestershire sauce to the meat for extra flavor.

    I've made this recipe for my kids who are very picky eaters that dont like Onions at all, a few times now and they love it. it's quick easy taste great smells great and you can use the French Onion dipping sauce for another meal. Love it #winnerdinner
