This recipe makes a really great pot roast and you only need 5 ingredients!  The rich tavern-style cooking sauce takes all the guesswork out- since it's already perfectly seasoned and thickened so all you have to do is add the beef and vegetables.  The cooking sauce works in the oven, the slow cooker and the multi-cooker, so you just have to choose the one that works for you and let it cook hands-free!  Makes it almost too easy to have a comforting bowlful of fork-tender beef and vegetables in gravy, doesn't it?

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 to 3 pounds boneless beef chuck roast
  • 4 medium carrot, peeled and cut into 3/4-inch pieces (about 2 cups)
  • 4 stalks celery, cut into 1/2-inch pieces (about 2 cups)
  • 2 large onion, cut into 1/2-inch pieces (about 2 cups)
  • 1 pouch (13 ounces) Campbell's® Tavern Style Pot Roast Cooking Sauce

Instructions

  • Tips

    • To make in a slow cooker, layer the vegetables and beef in a 6-quart slow cooker.  Pour in the sauce.  Cover and cook on LOW for 7 to 8 hours (or HIGH for 4 to 5 hours) or until the beef is fork-tender and the vegetables are tender.
    • To make in a multi-cooker, cut the beef in half crosswise (for quicker cooking).  Layer the vegetables and beef in a 6-quart multi-cooker.  Pour in the sauce. Do not stir.  Pressure cook on High pressure, setting the timer for 45 minutes. When done, press Cancel and quick release the pressure.
  • Step 1

    Heat the oven to 325°F.  While the oven is heating, place the beef, carrots, celery and onions into a 4-quart Dutch oven.  Pour the sauce over the beef and vegetables.  Cover the Dutch oven.

  • Step 2

    Bake for 3 to 3 1/2 hours or until the beef is fork-tender.  Serve over mashed potatoes, if desired.
