You could spend hours over the stove simmering chunks of beef in a broth flavored with onions and mushrooms, or you could follow this recipe and let your slow cooker do all the work. Either way, the result is tender, hearty, perfectly seasoned beef you can serve with potatoes and some green vegetables, spoon over rice or noodles, or pile onto crusty rolls. The only difference is this slow cooker recipe only needs five minutes of your attention before your slow cooker takes over.

cost per recipe: $13.55

  • 2 pounds beef for stew, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 can (10 1/2 ounces) Campbell’s® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup or 98% Fat Free Cream of Mushroom Soup
  • 1 can (10 1/2 ounces) Campbell’s® Condensed French Onion Soup
  • 12 ounces uncooked medium egg noodles (about 6 cups)

  • Tips

    • Time-Saving: This recipe may also be cooked on HIGH for 4 to 5 hours.
  • Step 1

Season the beef with salt and pepper.  Place the beef into a 3 1/2-quart slow cooker.  Stir the soups in a small bowl.  Pour the soup mixture over the beef.

  • Step 2

Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 9 hours or until the beef is fork-tender.  Cook and drain the noodles according to the package directions during the last 20 minutes of the beef cooking time.

  • Step 3

Season the beef mixture to taste.  Serve over the noodles.

I was given this recipe, with the addition of 1 can Campbell's golden mushroom soup, by a friend named Melissa 20 years ago when I had a young family and worked a full time job. Her version used the soups mentioned here along with a can of golden mushroom and 2 lbs of stew meat. She also noted that searing the beef in a super hot pan with a small amount of oil before adding it to the slow cooker gave this dish an amazing rich deep flavor, but was not necessary if in a hurry. I also add the cooked egg noodles to the crockpot for the last 10 minutes of cooking time and let the noodles soak up some of the flavor from the sauce. amazingly simply and everyone's favorite still to this day.

  • Easy to make!

I doubled this recipe to feed my MC club brothers. They're a hungry bunch. This was devoured in minutes! Will definitely do this one again.

  • Very Easy. Dont use egg noodles.

I drive an 18wheeler. Nothing better than just throwing everything in the oven bag, so there is no mess, and turning on the heat in the morning. Dinner is ready 8hrs later. Really good and dirt simple. Will probably use bowties and someother type of regular noodles but yes its definately on the rotation. I used 1can of Cream of Mushroom and 1can of Beef and Mushroom instead of FrenchOnion. Still Awesome....

  • Fantastic!!
