Forget boxed mixes—there’s nothing quite like from-scratch mac n’ cheese, and this recipe is practically as easy, since it uses cheddar cheese soup as a shortcut to a rich, creamy cheese sauce. Topped with breadcrumbs for extra crunch and baked until the cheese is bubbly and the top is golden brown, this one-dish baked macaroni and cheese is bound to be the most popular dish on the table.

Heat the oven to 400°F. While the oven is heating, stir the bread crumbs and butter in a small bowl.

Stir the soup, milk, cheese and rotini in a 1-quart casserole. Season the mixture with salt and pepper. Sprinkle the bread crumb mixture over the rotini mixture.
Step 3
Bake for 20 minutes or until the rotini mixture is hot.
Good starter
I follow almost everything but I also add 1 tsp of bbq rub 1 4 once bag of Chedder cheese 1 tsp bacon bits half butter then I smoke it for 2 hours at 225 to 275. Great side dish with smoked ribs.
Not great
tastes bland, no flavor
Spice it up with Fiesta Cheese
Maybe it's because I live in Texas, but I love this recipe, but I substitute the Cheddar Cheese soup with Fiesta Cheese.
Good starting recipe
I agree is was a little bland on its own but seeing as I never just leave my cooking to just the recipe, I doctored it up a bit. I added some bacon, extra Colby jack, and a little goat cheese, garlic salt, onion powder, and mustard powder and I also used panko bread crumbs instead. I added some thyme, rosemary, dill, and parsley to the bread crumbs and butter mixture and boy was it good. This may be my regular family Mac and cheese now.
Easy and yummy
Great side dish, kids loved it and easy to make.
