Craving a hearty and comforting meal but short on time? Look no further than these French Onion Smothered Pork Chops - your new go-to dinner for busy weeknights. While French onion soup typically involves slow-cooking onions until they’re caramelized, we’ve hacked the process by using Campbell’s® French Onion Soup as the star time-saving ingredient in a rich, flavorful sauce that will make every bite of your pork chops unforgettable. And, since this meal is French onion soup-inspired, you can’t forget that bubbly, golden brown cheese topping that will have everyone asking for seconds.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) Campbell’s® Condensed French Onion Soup
  • 4 bone-in pork chop, approximately 1-inch thick (about 3 pounds)
  • 8 slices provolone cheese or Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons sliced green onion or chopped parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  • Step 1

In an oven safe 9x13 baking dish, season both sides of the pork chops with salt and pepper, then pour the soup over them evenly. Place the dish in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes or until a thermometer reads 145°F or higher in the thickest part of the chop away from the bone.

  • Step 2

Carefully remove the baking dish from the oven and spoon the soup back over the chops if necessary. Top the chops with the sauce in the pan if they have dried. Turn up the heat to 450°F or use the broil setting. Layer 2 slices of cheese over each chop and place back into the oven until the cheese has melted and begins to brown, 3-5 minutes more. Let cool before serving. Garnish with green onion or parsley if desired.
