This quick and Creamy White Cheddar Mac & Cheese is a simple stovetop version that's ready in just 20 minutes. Perfect for busy weeknights, this recipe combines shell pasta with a smooth white cheddar cheese sauce made with Campbell's® Condensed White Cheddar Cheese Soup, milk, and shredded white cheddar cheese. A pinch of cayenne pepper adds an optional kick to this comforting classic, offering a homemade taste that's so much better, and just as easy, as boxed white cheddar mac & cheese.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces uncooked medium shell shaped pasta (about 3 cups dry)
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) Campbell's® Condensed White Cheddar Cheese Soup
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded white Cheddar cheese (about 6 ounces)
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

  • Tips

    • For a baked version with buttery breadcrumbs, heat the oven to 375°F.  Prepare the pasta mixture as shown and spoon into a lightly greased 2-quart baking dish.  Mix 1/4 cup panko, 1 tablespoon melted butter, 1 tablespoon chopped parsley or chives and 1/4 teaspoon paprika.  Sprinkle over the pasta mixture and bake for 20 minutes or until the panko mixture is golden brown.
    • You can stir 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard into the pasta mixture.  Dijon mustard is a nice compliment to the white Cheddar and it adds another layer of flavor.
  • Step 1

    Cook the pasta according to the package directions in a 4-quart saucepan.  Drain the pasta and return to the saucepan.

  • Step 2

    Stir in the soup, cheese, milk and cayenne pepper (if using) and heat over medium heat, stirring often, until the mixture is hot and the cheese is melted.  Season to taste with salt and pepper.
